first_img Luisao Chelsea failed in a last-ditch bid to sign Benfica veteran Luisao, according to reports in Portugal.Blues boss Jose Mourinho submitted a late enquiry for the 34-year-old before the Premier League champions secured the services of Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji in a £4m deal.Luisao, who won 44 caps for Brazil and appeared in two World Cups, was made aware of Chelsea’s interest in his signature but Benfica quickly rebuffed any approach.It has been reported by O Jogo that the Stamford Bridge side were willing to offer the experienced centre-back a two-year contract, a deal in which was favourable to Luisao.However, Benfica’s longest-serving captain in the club’s history is now set to see out his career at the Estadio da Luz. 1last_img
