Manager Mauricio Pochettino worked with him during his time in charge of the Spanish club.Did you know?1) The defender came through the ranks at Mexican side Club Universidad Nacional and was promoted to the first team in 2007 after winning the U17 World Cup two years earlier with Mexico. He was signed by AZ Alkmaar in 2007.2) Moreno worked with Louis van Gaal during his time with the Dutch club and by the end of the 2008/09 season he was a regular feature in the side as the club finished the campaign as Eredivisie champions.3) Espanyol came calling in 2011 and with the help of a Mexican investment fund, signed Moreno for around €4.5m. He played 39 games under Mauricio Pochettino over the course of his first year at the Barcelona-based club.4) Along with his usual spot in the heart of the defence, Moreno has played as a holding midfielder at youth level for Mexico. He is a reliable stopper, whose errors are rare (imagine that, Spurs fans) and is powerful in the air.5) The defender has played for Mexico since U17 level, and made his senior debut at the age of 19 in October 2007. He was part of the Mexico squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and 2014 in Brazil where he played every group game before breaking a bone in his shin against the Netherlands in the last 16. The injury ruled him out for between four and six months.
