Orona loses in state semis; still alive for third-place medal

You’re all set! 11:50 a.m.:BAKERSFIELD — Marcus Orona’s quest for a state title ended with a semifinal lost this morning at the CIF State Wrestling Championships at Rabobank Arena. The Santa Fe junior lost by fall in the second period against Campolindo’s Nikko Triggas. Orona, who won individual titles at the CIF-Southern Section divisional and Masters meets, is still alive for a third-place finish. He will be in the third-place semifinals later today. The Chiefs’ Lenny Romero (heavyweight) and Schurr’s Julian Zuniga (215) scored wins during the fifth consolation round. Both are ensured of at least an eighth-place medal and will wrestle in the third-place quarterfinals later today.last_img
