The Meters Hold Emotional Reunion, Welcome Haynes, Potter, Worrell, Trombone Shorty In New Orleans

first_imgThis weekend, New Orleans welcomed the return of all four original members of The Meters to the stage, performing the music that has come to define the NOLA funk sound. The four funky cats – Art Neville, Zigaboo Modeliste, George Porter Jr., and Leo Nocentelli – hit the Orpheum Theater, putting on a show that none will soon forget. The original Meters don’t often share the stage these days, only coming together for rare and priceless occasions. This was one of those nights, as an influx of special guests added to the magic. Whether it was “Just Kissed My Baby” with Bernie Worrell and Warren Haynes or a rendition of “Ain’t No Use” with Grace Potter, the mood was simply electric. Dumpstaphunk’s Ivan Neville was on hand for most of the night as well, and Trombone Shorty made an appearance on “Be My Lady” as well. There was also a full horn section for a majority of the show, composed of Tracy Griffin, Jeff Albert, Khris Royal and Clarence Johnson III.Watch videos of “Cissy Strut” and “Ain’t No Use”, featured below.Check out photos from the night, courtesy of Marc Millman:last_img
