Vancouver man gets 9 months in jail for assault burglary

first_imgA Vancouver man who barged into a home along the Columbia River and locked himself inside, claiming it was his, was sentenced Monday to nine months in jail.Irving Diaz-Rodriguez, 20, pleaded guilty in Clark County Superior Court to a charge of third-degree assault, amended from first-degree burglary. He pleaded guilty in another case to second-degree burglary.On Feb. 3, 2016, Diaz-Rodriguez knocked on the door of a house in the 10600 block of Southeast Burlington Drive. When one of the residents, David Weisen, answered, Diaz-Rodriguez told him it was his residence and he wanted inside, according to an affidavit of probable cause.Weisen, who is in his early 70s, tried to push Diaz-Rodriguez out of the doorway. But Diaz-Rodriguez punched him in the throat, the affidavit said.A struggle ensued, and Diaz-Rodriguez rushed inside the home and locked Weisen outside, court records state.Weisen’s wife and granddaughter, who were inside the home, hid in a locked bedroom until police arrived. Officers broke through the house’s front door and arrested Diaz-Rodriguez.last_img read more
