Butts had got no votes in that election but the 4th place person had 500 plus. Those voters were not represented by the 3 members on the council who nominated/voted for Butts and those members SHOULD BE RECALLED. Report Reply 1 reply · active 270 weeks ago -4 Vote up Vote down Larry · 270 weeks ago But the council followed the rules that had been set forth in choosing the vacant council position. So what can you recall them for, following the rules. You have to show cause for a recall. No recall election – once held – can be made void due to the insufficiency of the grounds, application or petition by which the submission was originally procured. I fail to see anyplace in there that the council was guilty any of these things when they followed city policy and appointed a council member. Cause if it had been 6 months ago….I wouldn’t have had a problem with them picking someone who didn’t run. Report Reply 1 reply · active 270 weeks ago +3 Vote up Vote down SuCoPride · 270 weeks ago Next highest vote total could certainly be considered a qualification, but should NOT be considered the sole decision. Too many scenarios. What if the next 3 votes don’t apply, is the Council then forced to select the 6th place finisher who had 72 votes? That certainly doesn’t accomplish much. I guess they could right the policy with lots of IFs: IF an election has been held within the last 6 months, IF the next highest vote applies for the position, If they earned more than 200 votes, IF there’s been an interview process for all applications, IF they call, post on the website, email, and call Cue, IF, IF, IF. Seems to me that that the elected positions should be left to the job they were elected to do. Report Reply 0 replies · active 270 weeks ago +2 Vote up Vote down Guest · 270 weeks ago This should have been a yes/no question in regards to how the Council handled the appointment of Butts. While the City Council was well within the letter of the law regarding the decision that was made, a lot of needless drama could have been avoided if it were handled differently. It was not the appointment itself that left a bad taste in the mouths of our tac paying citizens, rather the rushed under-the-table way it was done. We care about our community and wanted to share in review of the applicants.
