Los Molinos >> After a slow start, the host Bulldogs took the lead toward the end of the first period Friday night and never looked back, beating the Chester Volcanoes 66-54.It was a sophomore showcase, with Aaron Hardy, Devin Henderson, Ty Isaksen and Hunter Landingham getting the job done. Chester took the lead early as the Bulldogs had trouble hitting their shots and pulling down boards. Madhya Pradesh Minister Govind Singh on Thursday took potshots at the BJP MP Pragya Thakur over her appointment to the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Defence, wondering if the controversial politician has been named to the key panel to “finish off Pakistan completely”. Pragya Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case of Maharashtra, will be part of the 21-member committee headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, according to a bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. May be the country wants to use her brains to finish off Pakistan completely, Mr. Singh quipped when reporters sought his comment on Pragya Thakur’s nomination to the crucial panel. As scribes burst into peals of laughter over his remark, the Congress Minister said, I did not nominate her to the panel. In their [the BJP-led NDA government] mind, the decision was right so they took it.“This is theirs…Minister and Home Ministers decision. She will work accordingly,” said the Cooperative Minister, the MLA from Lahar, the native place of Thakur in Bhind district. Women are doing well and excelling in every field. They were outshining boys in examinations, he said. I have seen a lot in her. She has become Bhopal MP. What more you want to see in her? he said when scribes asked him to comment on Pragya’s qualities. “I know Pragya Singh since her birth…her schooling days. I know her entire family. Her house is just 100mts away from mine [in Lahar]. Her father was my friend. I know her, you all too know her,” he said. The BJP MP, currently on bail in the blast case, had defeated her Congress rival Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal in her maiden election in May this year. The 49-year-old saffron-robed sadhvi has courted controversy on several occasions in the recent past with her remarks, including calling Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a “patriot”. During her Lok Sabha poll campaign, she said that Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare had died during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks due to her curse. In July, she had told a gathering of BJP workers that she had not become a lawmaker to clean drains or toilets, an apparent dig at the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship programme of the Modi government. In August, she had said the Opposition was using ‘marak shakti’ [killing power] to harm BJP leaders. Her comments had come against the backdrop of death of former Union Ministers and BJP stalwarts Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.

He says there’s also less room for Canadian crude in American refineries, which are running at a 13-year high of more than 90 percent of capacity, because of strong U.S. crude oil production in 2017.Deloitte predicts that Canadian price differentials will start to return to historic norms as the new Sturgeon Refinery northeast of Edmonton ramps up production this year, soaking up some of Alberta’s oilsands crude surplus, and as more refinery room becomes availablein the U.S.It adds that the Alberta government’s recent initiatives to encourage building partial upgrading facilities for oilsands crude, if successful, will also help free up more export pipeline room.About 850,000 barrels per day of Canada’s oil production is conventional light oil, the rest of the 4.5 million bpd total is oilsands bitumen and conventional heavy oil.(THE CANADIAN PRESS) CALGARY, A.B. – The same factors that have inflated the discount paid for Canadian oilsands heavy crude compared with U.S. oil are also driving a substantial rise in the discount for light Canadian oil.Accounting firm Deloitte says in a report that the difference between New York-traded West Texas Intermediate and Edmonton Light oil prices widened to US$7.32 per barrel in January, an 86 percent increase over the average of US$3.93 per barrel in the fourth quarter of last year.Deloitte partner Andrew Botterill says the lower relative pricing for Canadian crude is partly caused by pipeline capacity constraints as oil production rises in Canada. A key conduit to the U.S. market, TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone pipeline, remains at lower capacity following a leak in November.
London: A day after British Prime Minister Theresa May was forced to set a June timeline for her exit from Downing Street, the Opposition Labour Party ended the cross-party Brexit talks on Friday without arriving at any agreement. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wrote to May to declare an end to the process, blaming the “weakness and instability” of her government as a leadership contest gets underway within the ruling Conservative Party. “The increasing weakness and instability of your government means there cannot be confidence in securing whatever might be agreed between us,” Corbyn wrote. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince Salman ‘snubbed’ Pak PM Imran, recalled his private jet from US: Report “As you have been setting out your decision to stand down and Cabinet ministers are competing to succeed you, the position of the government has become ever more unstable and its authority eroded,” he noted. Stressing that his party had conducted the exercise in “good faith” and that some constructive effort had gone into finding a possible consensus, there has been growing concern within the Opposition ranks about the government’s ability to deliver on any compromise agreement. Also Read – Iraq military admits ‘excessive force’ used in deadly protests The Labour Party has been in favour of a form of a common customs arrangement with the European Union (EU) that keeps the UK aligned with its European neighbours on trade tariffs post-Brexit. Some Labour MPs have also insisted they would not back a deal with the government unless it includes another referendum. Both scenarios have caused anger among Brexit-backing Conservatives, who claim a customs union would stop the UK negotiating its own trade deals around the world and who believe another public vote is undemocratic. In his letter to the British PM, Corbyn noted: “Not infrequently, proposals by your negotiating team have been publicly contradicted by statements from other members of the Cabinet. “In recent days we have heard senior Cabinet ministers reject any form of customs union, regardless of proposals made by government negotiators.” The Labour leader is equally clear about the party’s opposition to May’s unchanged Withdrawal Agreement, which is set for a fourth House of Commons vote in the week beginning June 3. “I should reiterate that, without significant changes, we will continue to oppose the government’s deal as we do not believe it safeguards jobs, living standards and manufacturing industry in Britain,” Corbyn said. The compromise talks were convened around six weeks ago, when May lost the third vote in Parliament on her EU Withdrawal Agreement rejected repeatedly by MPs over the controversial Irish backstop clause. The latest Labour stance means May’s deal looks even more unlikely to secure the parliamentary arithmetic required for the Withdrawal Agreement to be enforced in time for the new October 31 Brexit deadline. On Thursday, after a crucial meeting with the powerful 1922 Committee of Tory backbench MPs, it was announced that May would set out a clear timetable for her resignation as Tory leader and make way for a new prime minister by next month. Former Cabinet minister and hard Brexiteer Boris Johnson is seen as a frontrunner in the race, with a number of other Cabinet ministers set to throw their hat in the ring. Meanwhile, May is likely to offer a set of binding indicative votes in the Commons as she had indicated when she announced the cross-party talks. These votes are likely to take place within days as the UK Parliament is set for a break from next Thursday before reconvening in early June.
An alternate payout scheme that seems to have caught on recently is an “Every Score Pays” squares pool. Under this version, instead of waiting for the end of each quarter, a fixed percentage of the pool is paid out after every score change, including extra points. A typical amount is 5 percent of the pool per score. Payouts continue until the funds are exhausted. Any money left over at the end of the game goes to the holder of the final score square. Using detailed play-by-play data from that same 10 season dataset, I also calculated the expected value of each square under this somewhat more complex payout scheme (assuming the 5 percent payout option). In general, regardless of the payout scheme, 0-7 and 0-3 will be valuable squares. 0-0 tends to be a valuable first quarter square due to the likelihood of a scoreless first 15 minutes. And, much like the “9” button on your microwave, the 5-5 square is highly unlikely to see much action this Sunday. Superbowl XLIX takes place Sunday afternoon, and with it, our nation’s annual exercise in modular arithmetic: Super Bowl squares. In a squares pool, participants are assigned a pair of single digit numbers on a 10×10 grid — so I’d have 0 and 7, for example. Each pair of numbers corresponds to a square on the grid, and I’d get paid if the Patriots finished with a score that ended in 0 and the Seahawks with a score that ended in 7 — 20, 17, say. Typically, people get paid according to the score at the end of each quarter, as well, to add a little spice to the proceedings. In most pools, squares are assigned on a random basis, but not all squares are equal in terms of expected value. Football scoring tends to come in chunks of sevens and threes (and, much less frequently, sixes, eights, and twos). As a result, squares containing zero, seven, and three are more valuable than those containing, say, a five or a two.If you’re in an office squares pool, you probably already know your numbers and may be wondering whether your square is any good. Or perhaps you want to engage in a little pre-game arbitrage with other members of your pool. If so, I’ve calculated the expected value of each square, after each quarter, below. (Expected payouts are derived from the outcomes of over 2,500 games from 10 NFL seasons.)
NBA Things That Caught My EyeWater is technically snake oil, I guess?Tom Brady is really great at being a football player, but his provenance as a nutritionist or health expert is suspect. In the spirit of “just because you’re a bird doesn’t mean you’re an ornithologist,” Christie Ashwanden took a serious look at the TB12 method, and the reality is that drinking lots of water isn’t the same as putting on sunscreen, drinking too much water is actually pretty dangerous, and “pliability” could have less to do with Tom Brady’s continued efficacy behind center than, say, a continually successful offensive line that’s been adept at protecting him from injury. On the other hand, as I’m currently on day four of The Gronk Cleanse, I am pretty hammered. [FiveThirtyEight]The Bills are IN! But…The Buffalo Bills have snapped the longest active streak in the NFL and made the playoffs after 17 years of not doing that. The organization is in heaven right now. Still, making the playoffs can have a lot more to do with luck than skill, and this Bills group is pretty middle-of-the-road talent-wise when compared to those 17 other teams. While they finished 9-7, teams that got outscored by 57 points over the course of the year usually get fewer breaks in their direction and finish with six or seven wins.
